I am motivated to use my professional expertise for positive change, channeling my skills to advocate, educate and inspire in pursuit of societal and environmental progress.
The City of Perth recognised the urgent need for intervention to address the concerns affecting the LGBTQIA+ community's rights and well-being. Despite my lack of formal community development experience, my passion for the task at hand led me to take an exciting and challenging new career direction into the Diversity and Inclusion role where my task was to develop an action plan the community supported.
Operating within a challenging timeframe, I designed workshops and surveys to engage both council staff and community members, accumulating over 500 inputs for comprehensive situational analysis and benchmarking, collated into an Outcomes Report I prepared. Negotiating internal complexities, I secured vital stakeholder buy-in (including CEO and Lord Mayor), collaborated closely with internal teams, and consulted an external advisory group for ongoing community input.
These efforts culminated in the development of a Council-approved three-year action plan that focussed on the City of Perth’s role in increasing the visibility, social inclusion and health and wellbeing of the LGBTQIA+ community, setting a precedent for local governments in Western Australia. Personally, this endeavour marked a milestone in my career, allowing my professional development to strongly align with my values and advocacy for my community.
Following the directive to develop an LGBTQIA+ plan for the City of Perth, there was a need for strategic alignment within the organisation to ensure cohesion amongst existing diversity and inclusion plans addressing other marginalised groups.
Working under a tight timeframe that run concurrent to the development of the LGBTQIA+ plan, I orchestrated workshops and surveys targeting various demographic groups, including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, people with disabilities, youth, seniors, LGBTQIA+, and Aboriginal communities. I prepared an outcomes report with the analysis of the 200+consultation inputs, simultaneously maintaining ongoing engagement with external advisory groups, fostering a collaborative environment for valuable insights and feedback.
Leveraging the data from stakeholder consultations, I co-developed the inaugural Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework that not only strategically aligned the three D&I plans but also addressed the needs of outlying diversity groups not previously captured and provided principles to guide other operations ensuring ensured that Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion were at the forefront of all Council initiatives.
In my role as the marketing support for the RAC Advocacy team (2015-16), I spearheaded multi-channel campaigns focusing on road safety, sustainability and autonomous vehicles. Collaborating with agency partners and internal stakeholders, I managed impactful communications aimed at raising awareness and driving behavioural change. I was pivotal in the delivery of:
RAC bstreetsmart - a compelling road safety event for high school students featuring crash scene reenactments to demonstrate the consequences of dangerous driving.
RAC Electric Highway – a series of free electric vehicle charging stations across more than 300km of Western Australia's south west, addressing barriers to electric vehicle ownership.
RAC Elephant in the Wheatbelt - a life-size sculpture to spark conversations about the alarming road toll in rural Western Australia.
RAC Intellibus - Australia's first driverless bus trial which helped demonstrate automated vehicle technology to the general public.
